ABOUT EMMA

I create mixed-media paintings and collages inspired by the natural world. My work is made from discarded magazines, acrylic paint, oil pastels and mediums.

I graduated from Loughborough University in 2014 with a First Class BA in Textiles: Innovation and Design, since then, I have designed artwork for the international interior textile market for use on wall-coverings, upholstery fabrics, bedding, tableware and wall art. I have always been drawn to decoration and the impact it has.

Having spent a significant time creating digital outcomes, I found myself more drawn to my mixed-media work because of its tactile qualities. I’ve always been a collector and organiser of small things - grouping paper cuttings, threads, beads and found objects I think work well together in unexpected ways.

The processes I have developed came from a desire for real, physical objects made patiently by hand - in contrast to a fast paced world so dominated by screens. I’ve become increasingly aware of over-consumerism, emphasising my passion for adding value to existing materials.

I’m driven by my need to make beautiful, one-of-a-kind pieces that enhance our living environments and will be passed on rather than discarded. I aim to bring the viewer a moment or two of complete focus and observation, reminding them of the importance of being present. With my slow, layered approach I create images with considerable depth and interest - inspiring patience and authenticity.
